Moving to Mexico - Top ten reasons for doing it this year - starter post!

live in mexicoIt’s another Livtopia Contest! This is merely the starter post; we’ll be sending a Livtopia T-Shirt to the person who leaves the number one reason for Moving to Mexico in the comments section below this post.

We’ve posted similar lists of reasons in the past, like the 7 ways Latin America is more Accessible post from way back and the top ten reasons to consider Vergel de la Pena. But this time we are hoping to hear from more readers about what your own personal best argument or justification is!

  • Mexican Culture?
  • Mexican Food?
  • Mexican Investment Atmosphere?

Whatever your reason is -Just spell out a 5 word, 10 word or 50 word reasoning in the comments section. (if you need 400 words that’ll be ok too.) We’ll compile the best answers into a top ten, then we’ll email the very best commenter (judged by Livtopia Customer Service) and they’ll receive a custom Livtopia T-Shirt (L or XL) in the post.

New July Dates in Riviera Maya

playa carmen townhouses beach housesWith the success of the last couple of Mayan Riviera Discovery Weekends, the powers that be decided to add a second weekend to the month of July. July 26, 27 & 28 they’ll be hosting guests from far in the north of Canada and plenty of places even closer at hand.

Cancun is still one of the most affordable places to fly into in all Mexico - from points all over the US and Canada. And this weekend promises to cover territory from Cancun all the way to Playa del Carmen and to show off some of Mexico’s best loved Caribbean beachfront.

There are some new properties - freestanding houses and condominiums - to be announced early in July and a new tour or two. So this weekend is guaranteed to be a lot of fun!

If Cancun is too much, and even Playa del Carmen can’t float your boat, don’t forget our Mérida weekend is coming up in August too. It can be just as inexpensive to arrive there - especially if you fly through Cancun.

Driving to Mexico - Bring your car, you won’t regret it

car import mexico

John Chalmers piece this weekend in the Edmonton Journal should add some incentive to those of you considering driving into Mexico. I’ve quoted the real substance of the article below, but the full article captures plenty of the poetry of the Mexico Road-Trip.

First, you need Mexican car insurance. Friends recommended American agents who deal with Mexican insurance policies. I talked on a toll-free line to one company that came highly recommended, then filled out an online application form. The policy arrived via e-mail minutes later. A printed copy in English and Spanish came by mail a few days later.

We crossed at Nogales, just south of Tucson, Ariz. At the end of the “free zone,” 21 kilometres south of the Mexican border, we stopped to buy tourist visas for about $25 per person, payable with cash. A car permit costs about $32, payable by credit card only. A sticker goes on your windshield. It’s important to keep the paperwork when returning, to show customs officials, who remove the sticker.

Save time at the border by reporting to immigration with two photocopies each of your passport, driver’s license and automobile registration. You will then need photocopies made of the tourist visa from the service available.

Chalmers’ trip was extensive, and he’s documented the whole thing. From crossing the US to Las Vegas and into Mexico where things get really exciting.  It’s a good argument for bringing your car along but however you plan on arriving, it’s a good argument for visting too.

Guanacaste Discovery Weekend Follow-Up

guanacaste costa rica homes condosFolks are so excited to be back from our trip to Costa Rica that we’ve had quite a time keeping up with all the good news and all the photos.

We just put together a bunch on the our new Guanacaste landing page. These should give you a much better idea of what you can expect in a weekend there.

We sometimes give the impression that Guanacaste is just another beach resort, but with rodeos and live dancing entertainments shows - not to mention the truly classy neighborhoods - there’s more than enough to fill up a weekend.

The food and the accommodations were top notch as were the speakers and presenters. But the real star of the weekend was the homes. We tried to put even more of them in this presentation so that you can get a better idea of what to expect when you arrive.
